 To become a certified electrician in Toronto (Ontario), you must follow a structured path that includes education, apprenticeship, and certification exams. Here’s a complete step-by-step guide:

 Step-by-Step Process to Become a Certified Electrician in Toronto:

Step 1: Meet Basic Requirements

  •  Be at least 16 years old

  •  Have Grade 12 education (or equivalent) with credits in Math and English

  •  Physically capable and comfortable with hands-on, technical work


Step 2: Apply for an Electrician Apprenticeship

There are two main ways to enter an apprenticeship:

๐Ÿ”น 1. Through a Pre-Apprenticeship Program (optional but helpful)

  • Offered at colleges like George Brown College, Humber College, Centennial College, etc.

  • Usually lasts 4 to 12 months

  • Covers basic electrical theory and safety

  • Can boost your chances of getting hired as an apprentice

๐Ÿ”น 2. Directly Register as an Apprentice

  • Find an employer willing to sponsor you

  • Then register the apprenticeship with Skilled Trades Ontario via the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD)

  • You must complete approximately 9000 hours (about 5 years)
